Changing Leaves
Sing "It's Autumn Time."
Read a book about autumn and how leaves change colors, such as "Autumn Leaves" by Gail Saunders-Smith or "Why do Leaves Change Color" by Betsy Maestro.
Talk to children about leaves on trees and how they are green during the spring and summer, but during the fall, they change colors and fall to the ground.
Fall Fingerplay:
Fall winds begin to blow
(blow like the wind)
Colored leaves fall fast and slow
(move hands, making motions like falling leaves)
Whirling, twirling all around
(spin around)
And at last they touch the ground
(touch the ground)
Leaves are Falling Down
(to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
Leaves are falling down.
Leaves are falling down.
Red, yellow, green, & brown,
leaves are falling down.
Changing Leaves Art:
We live in a place where there really aren't many fall-like season changes, such as changing leaves, so we decided to make our own! First, we went on a walk to gather our leaves, then we came home to turn them into art.
Materials:
leaves
paint (red, brown, yellow, orange)
paint brushes
Directions:
Lay out green leaves.
Paint over the tops of the leaves with autumnal colors.
Watch the leaves "change," right before your eyes!

Paint around the leaves to create your very own leaf-print, autumn art!
