As you recreate the nativity scene, put out the different pieces.
You could also use this Nativity Felt Board Activity.
Use the Advent coloring pages as you get to appropriate sections. When finished, put together as a book.
Read Luke 2:6-7.
Sing O, Little Town of Bethlehem.
Ask: Where were you born? What were the surroundings? How do they compare to those of Jesus? What would you think would be different about the birth of Jesus if he had been born in a palace? Why was he born in a stable?

Set up the stable of your nativity.
Mary: The Mother of Jesus
Read Luke 1:26-38, 46-56
List some of Mary's that you believe caused God to choose her to be the Mother of Jesus.
Color the pages on Mary.
Put Mary in the nativity scene.
Joseph: The earthly father of Jesus
Read Matthew 1:18-25
Sing "When Joseph Went to Bethlehem" (LDS Children's Songbook)
Discuss why you think God thought Joseph would make a good husband and father.
Color appropriate advent book pages.
Put Joseph in the nativity scene.
Baby Jesus: The Christ child, the reason for celebrating Christmas.
Sing Away in a Manger.
Read Luke 2:7, 11-12
Why do you think God decided to have His Son born into a manger?
Sing "Little Jesus" (LDS Children's Songbook)
Add Jesus to the nativity scene.
Color the pages advent pages.
Make a birth announcement for Jesus.
