Symbols of Christmas~
Santa Claus and Gifts
Santa Claus and Gifts
(Keep in mind that these lessons make take more than one day. You may want to plan for a few weeks before Christmas to start them.)
Santa Claus:
Read the book I Believe in Santa Claus by Diane Adamson. This book beautifully tells about how Santa Claus is a symbol of Christmas and the symbols of Christmas remind us of the true meaning of Christmas: Christ.
Color a picture of Santa.
Sing a Christmas Hymn, such as Joy to the World.
Look up information about St. Nicholas. His example of giving should be how we view the Christmas season.
Read Pilippians 2: 1-11 and Luke 18:16
Santa Claus reminds us to be good and kind. We should give to others and do nice things for them.
Exchange names in your family, secretly. Do nice things for that person throughout Christmas time. (Make their bed, pick up their room, do one of their chores, leave them a nice note, etc.)
Gifts:
Read Matthew 2: 10-11 and Matthew 7:11
God sent his son as the greatest gift of all.
Sing "Little Drummer Boy"
Color a picture of a gift.
Choose a family, widow, etc. and secretly give them a small gift from "someone who loves you." Fill a "Christmas Jar" with spare change and use that money to do something nice for a family in need. Ask how each family member can contribute.

Help children earn money to buy or make gifts for family members/friends. Teach them to think about others when deciding upon gifts. Help them wrap the gifts.
Remember that the wise men worshiped before presenting their gifts to Jesus. Make the opening of presents on Christmas a celebration instead of a free-for-all.
Christmas is about remembering the birth of Jesus and all He has done for us. Santa Claus and the spirit of giving can help us remember Christ.
